Elan demonstrates 'g!'Home Control System at ISE 2010
The 'g!' home automation interface from Elan Home Systems was up and running in Amsterdam at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE), where the product made its public debut.
The company is still on schedule to release the new software – which is compatible with existing products from Elan and sister company HomeLogic – in April, along with a new and improved OLED touchpad fashioned after the original Olé.
The g! product line will be offered at “very aggressive price points,” says Elan’s Joe Lautner, who comes from the HomeLogic side of the business.
The touchpad trumps the earlier versions because it offers two-way communications with third-party subsystems, not just Elan’s own A/V systems and select music servers.
At ISE, Elan demonstrated control of lights, thermostats and more from the new screens.
The touchscreens, including the 7- and 10-inch models, support analogue video, not just digital streaming devices.
“The 10-inch is nice for watching TV,” Lautner says.
Powering the system is a new line of g! hubs, which include loop-through video for on-screen displays.
American dealers who are familiar with HomeLogic will recognize the g!'s user interface, as the product incorporates some of HomeLogic’s core software – including multitouch technology.

Elan is pleased to support Snellings of Blofield at the launch of a unique demonstration facility.
Snellings have been supplying the latest in high end audio visual equipment throughout Norfolk for over five decades and have a long established reputation for unrivalled product knowledge and exceptional customer service.
Over 100 guests are expected to attend the event, which is being hosted over two evenings, Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th May at the recently refurbished showrooms at Blofield Heath near Norwich.
The evening will showcase the capability of the systems which Snellings can now provide for their clients. Guests will have a preview of the bespoke home cinema demonstration room, complete with automated screen, surround sound and integrated lighting, all controlled from a touch screen panel by the sofa. In addition, the facility demonstrates the Elan controlled integrated surround sound, security and lighting systems, which Snellings are able to design and install for clients.
Guests can ponder the possibilities of today’s future technologies whilst sipping champagne and nibbling canapés in the Snellings Museum which houses a collection of domestic electrical equipment dating back to the early 19th century.
During the course of both evenings, Snellings will be holding a raffle, giving guests the chance to win a fabulous Netbook, kindly donated by Loewe. All proceeds raised will be donated to the Norfolk Community Foundation, which awards grants to local groups and projects in and around Norfolk, that are in need of funding. Their aim is to build a stronger community by addressing real needs and to make a genuine difference to the people they serve.
